Dummy cells simulate the design, dimensions and weight of a battery cell - cost-effectively and free of charge. The demand for EAS dummies has steadily increased in the second half of 2020. Therefore, EAS Batteries is now including both weight and pure shape dummies of all EAS cell formats and modules in the EAS standard range. In particular, companies from the maritime industry, automotive and non-road mobile machine (NRMM) sectors require the EAS dummies for the development of their own battery packs. "With the help of the dummies, our customers can build battery packs and test the mechanical properties," says Head of Sales Dr. Frank Diehl. "The first shock and vibration tests can also be reliably carried out with the module and cell dummies." In this way, the developing companies precisely match the EAS cell and module formats and their desired application right at the start of development.
EAS attributes the increased demand for cell and module dummies to the market launch of the products EASy Module and EASy Marine®, DNV-GL certified in summer 2020, as well as to the increased development demand in the e-automotive industry after Tesla Battery Day in September 2020. EAS uses low-cost and harmless solid filling materials for the dummies that correspond to the weight distribution of the real cell. These non-functional cell and module dummies are manufactured according to the same internal quality characteristics as their "working" counterparts.
